To be a Conductor

2011 | wall graffiti (10 meters) & video series

A graffiti on the wall of an art gallery represents a schematic disposition of instruments in an orchestra.
For Porsperger, the interest is to use a young and urban way of expression : the spray, to represent something historical and quite untouchable : the orchestra.
A video-television is placed in the middle of the graffiti, exactly where the conductor should be placed. In this video Porsperger shows some basics of the technique of the conductor. Visitors are invited to try !
A series of video’s by Porsperger conducting master pieces of classical repertoire is also available to conduct :

The game is the following :
Placed between the projector and the screen, the public creates a shadow.
He/She is invited to become a conductor with his/her body’s shadow following the movements of Porsperger.
